Production: Mullein is a leafy, fuzzy plant that grows in a rosette shape with a shoot emerging from the middle that produces small, densely grouped, yellow flowers. The flannel-like leaves are harvested in the second year.
Qualities: Mullein leaf has a long history of use in herbal medicine, mostly for the treatment of respiratory ailments such as coughs, hoarseness, colds, earaches, flu symptoms, allergies, and sore throat. Mullein can also be used topically to soothe wounds, burns and irritated skin.
Common Use: Mullein can be used alone to brew a mild, earthy, and pleasant tasting tea, or it can be blended with other herbs such as gotu kola, licorice root, or calendula. Mullein is also used in ear oil recipes.
